connecting Gigabyte gtx 980 wires need help

Hi I am building a pc with one Gigabyte GTX 980 and using EVGA 1000 power supply the G-gtx 980 comes with molex connection to the PSU and the other side that goes to the card got only 6 pin in each plug wired total of 12 pin but in other hand the EVGA 1000 PSU that I use and the wire which marked for VGA or 6+2 total 8 and they are all wired and 2 in each plug is detachable so if one does not want it he can use only 6 pin one I guess but in both cases when I compare the wire that comes with the 980 they got different pins wired so even if I use only the plug with 6 pin still does not much the pin original g-gtx 980 wire that comes with gtx so wondering how to connect the evga red wire to the Gigabyte 980 and if I connect the evga 8 pin or 6 pin would it damage my gtx 980 since it will connect to those VGA board pin that it should not if you compare the original gtx cable with the EVGA 1000 power supply thanks

You need to use both 8 pin connectors from the power supply. Just plug them in and you are set to go. They will only go in one way.

Thanks but the in Gigabyte- GTX 980 cable only 12 of it got wired not 16 so that would not cause any damage? Do u have the same card ? I could not find any thing regarding this in its manual their manual is kind of useless

What exact model of power supply do you have? The 980 is a powerful card and not sure if only 2 6 pins are enough. It should have 2 - 8pin connectors.

The cable that comes with it got molex connection which connect to the power supply molex connector got only 3 out of 4 pin wired and the other side that goes to video card in each 8 pins only 6 of the pins are wired so that is kind of confusing for me and could not find anything in its manual regarding the new power supply connectors to G - gtx 980 new card but the cable that comes with it is for old power supplies

so r u saying that I only use 6 of the 8 pin in each plug ? or use all 8 that power supply comes with 4 cable for VGA they are all the same 6+2

You need to use the 6+2 power cables included with the Psu, if you look it should have a tab on the 6 and the 2 so they can slot together and become a solid 8 pin connection. The PSU may come with solid 8 pin connectors I'm not sure as John has stated. If the Gpu has 2 8 pin connection you need to put both 6+2/ 8 into each so all 8 slots are inserted. If you just put a 6 pin it will be underpowered and likely to cause problems.
