Connecting laptop to a monitor

Hi,

I'm trying to connect my Sony Vaio laptop (model pcg - 7v1m) to a Dell monitor.

It was my brothers monitor and he used to connect his laptop to it (also a vaio) so I know it can be done. But unfortunately, he's not around anymore to tell me how.

I'm very new at this, and honestly, have no clue what to use or anything so any help would be appreciated.

my laptop hooks up to a monitor. its a Toshiba.
in order to turn off the screen on the laptop and redirect to the
external video port i have to 'FN+F5'.
yours maybe different. you like have some kind of help in programs.
then again maybe 'F1' and search something like video.

you could always goto the manufacture and download the manual for your
model number.
