Connecting laptop to HDTV with HDMI cable - there is video but no sound

I am trying to connect my Gateway ID79C laptop (OS: Windows 7 64-bit) to my Panasonic TC-P50S30 HDTV with an HDMI cable. There are no issues in displaying the video, however, sound does not come from the TV speakers. The HDMI cable is connected directly to the HDMI port on the laptop and the HDMI port on the TV - there is no receiver / amp or other devices in between.

When I connect my HP Pavilion g6 laptop using the same setup (same cable and TV), it works flawlessly. Regardless, I still tried using different HDMI cables and different ports on the TV, this changed nothing. When I connect my Gateway laptop to my other HDTV or my LCD monitor via HDMI, both sound and video work just fine. I am only having the issue with this one TV.

I have followed the steps here on the Gateway website, but audio still does not output from the TV speakers.

The TV is recognized by the laptop, as you can see from the screenshot below:

This is what my sound properties window looks like:

I went through each device disabling / enabling it and setting it as default - still no sound from TV. I also tried removing and re-installing the audio driver and updating the BIOS, still nothing.

What do you guys think the problem is? Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

have you tried disabling the realtek digital output? Mine sometimes does this and I need to disable the original device when the hdmi cable is connected

Thanks for the reply trewyn15.

I have just tried what you suggested and it did not help :(
I have tried searching everywhere but cannot find a solution that works for me.

The Windows 7 Compatibility Center tells me my TV is compatible with Windows 7 and I have everything set up properly hardware-wise.

My laptop works with other TVs and monitors, and other laptops work with my TV - this is some special case.

Could it be that my laptop's video card (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650) just doesn't support this model TV? The driver's for my video card are up to date.

there really shouldn't be an issue with the tv and video card being compatible have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the video drivers or updating them?

Windows tells me my display drivers are up to date, so I don't think it would be an issue with the drivers.
