connecting pc and xbox360 to internet?

I've been having problems getting both my pc and my xbox to connect to the internet at the same time.

My current setup is cable internet, pc, and xbox all connecting through a "netgear 5-port ethernet switch FS605." I can get either the pc or the xbox to work but not both at the same time. to switch between them I have to unplug the power to both the switch and cable modem and reset them. Both the pc and the xbox are set to automatically obtain and ip address.

My pc is running windows xp home

Can you offer any suggestions on what to try?

Well if you are using a switch from the modem.. thats your problem.

Try Cable Modem-->Router-->PC&Xbox

The switch is meant to divide an already assigned internet connection, and the router connects to a service.

With most cable internets you will need to use one mac address at the router.
