Connecting second modem on same service?

Hello all, I was wondering if I could hook up a modem to my rig upstairs and the one downstairs on DSL? I tried to do it and I can't get the second one to connect and while its trying it cuts the signal to the first. I am using diffrent computers (duh) and different phone lines. Please tell me what I am doing wrong, or if I'm just an idiot and I can't do what I'm trying. Thanks

I'm on wireless now, I was just hoping to get a better connection the easy way. Thanks for the insight.

the modem is pulling your account information through the dsl signal. the only way this would work is if you order TWO broadband connnections on separate phone lines(separate phone numbers).

if he use a router ..he will be able to use internet on different computer right?

that is correct. The router allows you to hook up multiple computers to the internet. for example, one enterprise level router can allow literally thousands of computers to have access to the internet.
