Connecting to internet via. ethernet?

Im using a wireless usb thing to connect to the internet at the moment on this computer, however, since this computer has now moved into the room with the router, I want to connect the pc to the router directly with an ethernet cable, without using the wireless usb.

The computer will go back next month, but I would really want to connect it only using the ethernet cable. When I did this earlier, my computer did not pick up the ethernet cable that was plugged into the back of my PC.

Can anyone enlighten me on how to do this?

THANKS ALL.

Im using windows xp, and a dynamode router.

It is possible that the lan controller is not enabled in the bios if it is onboard. If it is load up the drivers. You should see a light on the router showing the connection. If not it could be a bad cable. Try a different port on the router and then a different cable.
