I get a connection interrupted error when I play COD4, I have tried a bunch of things to resolve this... such as

Manually setting my NIC to 100/Full
Updating COD4 to the latest version
Updating my NIC drivers
Opening ports on my firewall (dont know if Im opening the right ones though)

Anybody have some light they can shed on this...

It isn't a firewall problem otherwise you wouldnt connect.

What it is is one of 2 things:

1. the server has a problem, not necessarily it is faulty or anything it could have a problem with you.

It is either cheap space so high latency, or it is on the other side of the world

2. your internet conncetion is slow or unstable, so you aren't getting a permanent stream of high enough speed.

Either way, it is no problem with your settings.

Does it do this on every server?
What is your ping when playing?

He's right about number 2. Sometimes if you download files while you are playing online games, your connection slows down and you lag. Your network could also be unstable and so it will work and not work causing you to lag.

I dont notice my inet connection go down on anything else... it might be the graphic settings... i could try dumbing it down a tad. Which one do you turn down in particular to prevent this, i dont want to degrade my quality too much.

I have a DSL connection with nothing on the line except for my DVR which calls out like once a month or something but that shouldn't make a difference anyway cuz its filtered... no other phones.

Ill get back to you on my ping... i never pay attention of course when its interrupted its 999 but thats expected, ill have to check it periodically... i notice when i connect sometimes its like 60-80 ms which is totally reasonable.

And no I dont download anything while im playing, i turn off all apps except for AV basically.

Thanks for your replies.

is it always the same server that you play on when you get lag, if so it will be that server, either the quality of it or the location

No i just play random servers, it doesnt do it a lot either just every once in a while... enough to tick me off...

I suck at the game anyway so maybe i shouldnt fix it.. ill have a reason why im getting murdered.

haha, well most servers do that to me too. In all honesty I would say find a couple of servers that work fine for you and favourite them. Also, try this one:

81.19.217.158:28960

there are players on there from accross europe and america and only once in a blue moon does someone with 100+ ping log on and even rarer than that does the server have problems.

to get onto it incase you don't know, press `, the button to the left of 1 and the console should pop up. Copy and paste that IP exactly as it is and type into the console "connect " and press ctrl+v to paste the ip in, then hit enter, and make sure to put the space in between connect and the IP and to leave out the quotation marks aroun connect :P

Thanks,

however i believe you just want me to join that server cuz i said i sucked and you want to "pwn" me as the kids say.

jk... ill give it a shot.

lol i pwn there anyway :D

I am pretty sure you arent asw bad as you are making out though :P

I thought Id post back that I figured out my problem... I was playing the game one day and I had my syslog server up at the same time. I noticed everytime I got disconnected i got these DHCP renewals from my ISP and it would interrupt my connection. I just changed the location of my PPP from the modem to the firewall (watchguard soho6) and presto all is good in the n'hood.

I hope this helps someone in the future... put PPPoE on the FIREWALL/Router dont leave it on the modem... ::smack::
