i have been having this constantly occuring intermittent connection problem
what happens is whenever a download is started in an external program that isnt part of the browser (any browser) i lose the abitly to use web pages either via url or ip address i also cannot ping or access the router
however the program that is downloading will stay connected and download happily as ever as if nothing has changed.
i orginally thought this was dns problem but since i cant use ip address's ive started to think otherwise possibly the os (using xp sp3 atm)
i usually fix this by using the ipconfig/release then renew command which works but not always somtimes i have to use the flushdns command (which im not sure if it helps at all) and sometimes i have to clear the cache, but this problem still happens if all the cache files have been cleared.
theres is another computer connected to the router (which is a router and a modem in one) and no problems happen on the other machine
i have tried resetting the windows sockets using the winsock command but no difference
any ideas, thanks
