Connection Problem

Ok so one day i decide to go online and the connection speed is horrible compared to what i usually have. (I Have Adelphia Cable, and i usaully download at 200 to 350 but now i'd be lucky to get 20 and this is off the same sites basically and the pages take forever to load so it seems like i have dial-up). I don't know what to do because it's connected but the speed is really slow but then sometimes it disconnects the reconnects after a minute or so. I thought that this was Spyware but it can't be because my brother has the same problem and he just reformed. Can it be the Router thow? If so how do i know whats wrong with it? Or can it be the Modem Box?

One more thing i forgot to mention it does give me the message network wire unplugged but i checked all the wires and everything seems connected.

restart the modem and the router, either by just unplugging both of em and letting it rest then plug it back in or if there is a restart button.
if all else fails call Adelphia

Is there anything else i can do? When i go to the internet connection status it says Packets:
Sent: 81,000 325,000
Recieved: 71,000 166,000

Is that good? And whats the local network cable? Which cable is that?

i think its better if you have more recieved than sent packets.
the local area network(LAN) is where you connect your PC to the router.
have you called Adelphia?

Before i call isn't there a virus that slows it down called the Nachi? because i was doing some research to see what are the possible causes of this and i came up with that it could be a Virus. Do you guys know anything about the Nachi or how to get rid of it?

One more thing...can it be to area itself? Because on my road there building a road and maybe they hit or messed up the cable is that a possible cause?(But my tv works fine)
