connection problems

I'm wondering if someone can help me connect to the internet, I'm defeated. Background:
I'm not very technical with computers

Computer - Compaq Intel Core2 [email protected], 2GB RAM
OS - Windows XP Media Centre Edition Version 2002 Service pack 2
Network card - Intel 82562V 10/100 Netwrok Connection

6 months old, has been connected fine to the internet up until a couple of months ago, don't know what caused the failure.

It's connected through a Netgear Fast Ethernet Switch 10/100Mbps 8 port, along with 3 other computers, all connected fine. I've tried swapping the ports/leads and no joy.

I've run the compaq and windows helps, no joy. Can someone help please, I'm totally stumped?
Thanks

Have you tried swaping the cable between the computer and switch-Check in Device Manager and make sure the drivers are installed right on your Lan-Look through your connection settings and make sure everything is set right.

no no errors reported. That's the cable I tired swithcing isn't it? Yeah checked all drivers are installed. Is that something that can happen, they just suddenly uninstall themselves?

First, your ISP?

Secondly, reinstall the drivers for the onboard LAN port and try it again.

If you have Verizon and install their ServicePoint software it tends to screw with onboard ports, I know from experience.

ISP = BT
just reinstalled the netwrok adaptor's drivers. Same symptoms
And as far as I know don't have Verizon

Hey, maybe it got similar situation like I did:
Try your messenger (YM, MSN, etc.) Does it work but your browser not or both don't work? Well, because I was into that problem, I could use messenger pretty well but couldn't use any browsers. Then I knew that there was conflict between two (or more) of my internet application systems. Then I disabled one of them and it worked well like it used to be.
