Connection Speed

I Go To Start>My_Network_Places>View_Network_Connections and I see two things, 1 1394 Connection which is connected, it's duration clock is ticking, and the speed says 400.00 Mbps, but no packets are being sent or received. The second thing in the folder is a Local Area Connection, also connected, also has the duration clock ticking, but the speed is 100.00 Mbps, and it is sending and receiving packets.

Wouldn't it be better if the 400.00Mbps is sending/receiving packets? If so, is there a way to switch them or something?

As SubDude said, the connection with 400Mbps is the firewire port, which is similar to the USB port, so you cant take your ethernet cable and connect it to the firewire port.

The 1394 is firewire, nothing to do with networking..
The first part is correct, but you actually can use firewire for networking, although it's more expensive and is usually just used for connecting two PC's together that are close together.

Your internet connection is not faster than 100Mbps, therefore it dosen't matter.
That is correct, i'm assuming you have Cable or DSL, which means you probably have an internet connection between 1Mbps-10Mbps, so your not even close to using up the full bandwidth of a 100Mbps NIC.

thank you for clearing that up.. Firewire never really seemed to take off like USB did.. then we kida skipped right into SATA, wich IMO is going to be the next USB..

i totally agree, all the new cases have external SATA ports, 3GB/s :)
