Connection type, speeding up

When I have an internet receiver on the roof, from which the cable is directed to the wifi router, is this wireless broadband internet via satellite or how is this connection type called? Is it important to have my computer the closest to the router, the router to the receiver or receiver to the ISP transmitter? Or for speed and responsiveness (ping) is important to keep everything as close to each other?

I do not have too fast internet and I am looking for something what may improve my internet speed and I dont have to pay more my ISP. I have found several tricks how to speed up internet, but nothing works. I think it is due to my connection type, am I right? I found this program: http://www.jordysoft.com/icyclone/internet-cyclone.aspx. Is it safe and could I try it? Is it for OS Vista and 7 as well? For permanent speed boost, should it be installed for ever? If you know something that certainly speeds up the Internet, you can throw it here.

Thank you in advance for your help and I apologize for my english. :)

If my memory holds, your not going to ever get a low ping or a excessively high speed on a satellite connection. No matter how you slice it, the data has to travel up to 1200 miles up to the orbiter then make the trip back down to the server and then make the return trip all over again. That makes your ping skyrocket and limits the amount of speed you can get.

My ping is usually about 20-40 ms, but sometimes there are outages when ping increases up to 200 ms. My ISP offers internet with higher speed and same type of connection so it is possible to increase it, but I have to pay more. So you think there is no way to do something for free?

probably nothing that will work. The network ping and speed is all in the speed you are given. There is not much you can do about it unless you set up 2 connections like I have, basically limiting the amount of computers on the network will limit the amount of speed droop from the top speed.

Do you have satellite internet or do you have wireless service in your area? If you have satellite then the provider would be hughesnet I believe. There isn't anything you can do to increase your speed except for paying for a faster package.

This should be wireless service in my area, I receive internet from ISP transmitter which is about mile far. And I think that ISP transmitter does not take internet from satellite as well. But I suppose it is not important how my ISP takes internet, important is how I receive internet from ISP, or? :) I can contact ISP for exact informations how it works.

Yeah, if the transmitter is only a mile away then you are getting wireless internet, not satellite. The only way to increase speed is to pay for a faster package. Go here and do a speedtest and see what the results are.

Give us the download and upload speeds.

So optimizing internet and router works only with cable, DSL and other types of connection?

If you want to know my speed: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2088281942.png (2500-3400 kbps, less speed during outages). It is solid speed, but I download very often and sometimes I have problems with my ping. By the way, it is interesting that I sometimes download with speed about 250 KB/s, but actually I should download with speeed about 400 KB/s. It is certainly again due to my type of connection.

Your actual download speeds depends on a couple things. Your ISP's speed and how busy they are and also how busy the server is from where your downloading the file.

Your max download speed would be around 375 kb/sec. Wireless internet will have more ping and latency then say a dsl or cable internet connection so your stuck with what you got unless you pay for a faster speed.

Thank you for clarification. And is it possible to optimize DSL, cable and optical cable internet? Do other types of connection have disadvantages like wireless connection (sinking of speed and ping outages)? If yes, which ones?

Only wireless and satellite will have those issues. But if you are only a mile away from the transmitter, you probably won't run into too many issues.
