Conquering fear:: Hacked on CS 1.6

Hello, ever since I was hacked through CS 1.6 (They went into my computer, the drives were moving in the pc, and they controlled my "model" and even posted "your being hacked all over the screen"), I have had a fear of if I installed and played it again, I would meet similar consequences. Should I put my fears aside and brave CS one more time? Tell of your experiences with being hacked, or the game itself too. Thanks ^^
 
Never happened to me, playing online games for a long time (and some P2P games, which directly connect players to each other.) No hackers :D
 
I have hear a lot of CHEATS steal account information and do crazy things... you werent trying to install cheats were you?... Just reinstall it.. Download it at night when your sleeping.
 
Nah, i wasn't using any cheats whatsoever, I was DIRECTLY hacked, through CS 1.6 itself, but yeah *shrugs*
 
WOW I haven't got that experience on my computer with 1.6 because I take really good care of it. Maybe you could need some firewall. The best one are sygate and I forgot the other one. you adware to run some spyware stuff too. There worth downloading it on your computer. I don't need one I just use adware because I already have a firewall.
 
Just be sure to have a anitvirus program going. They tell you to turn it off, but I never do for instances just like the one you are expiriencing. When I was playing CS:S one time my game was minimized and Norton said a message like "A recent attempt to acess your computer was blocked" so I guess the antivirus kinda saved me.
 
Had the same thing on me. Cd drives started opening and closing and freakin out, and norton didn't see it. also, it changed my desktop wallpaper, lol, some wierd advertisement in dutch or something.
