Conroe Mobo for $60!!

What I meant was someone that already has DDR memory, and an AGP video card (like me). And they didnt want to wait until they had money to buy DDR2/PCI-E, or if they didnt want to sell their AGP video card.

Yeah, I was being a bit fussy :P

It seems like it's quite an ideal board for you though. You could buy a Conroe + this $60 motherboard, and voila. Not much money spent, only changed two components, yet you've gone from AMD single core, to Intel Dual Core :)

Actually I used to have a P4 2.2, but they had a deal on newegg where if I bought the A64 3400+, I got a free motherboard. So I should be getting my new cpu on Wednesday.

Oh... So you're not going to switch to Conroe anytime soon then.

Most likely not, since I really want to wait until I have a PCI-E video card and DDR2 memory. I also dont have much money right now, so i'll probably wait several months before buying one.

I still don't completely understand why everybody is saying that ASRock mobo's are horrible, just look at that mobo, it has more features than "good" mobos have. Sure it might suffer from a loss of performance but they did make a nice S939/AM2/AGP/PCI-E mobo in the past too. It featured AGP8X and PCI-E 16X slots running at the maximum speed they could, other manufacturers usually had an impaired AGP8X performance. And the fact that you could get an addon card which had an AM2 socket. And it was in most tests as good as a nForce 4 chipset mobo or even better.

ASRock motherboards are fine for normal users, however their BIOS lacks many advanced features. And on most of their boards, all you can do to overclock is raise the Bus, you cant raise voltages or set PCI locks.

intels site says you need a 955x or a 975x chipset.
thats cool that asrock did that though.
They must be refering to Intel chipsets, because other companies such as VIA produce chipsets as well, and the one on the motherboard I posted is capable of Conroe.

no i know but you said 965... does intel mean 955x through 975x? hmm i duno.
oh and btw that asrock mobo has nothing good lol... only 2 dimm slots... 100mbps not 1000mbps...
kinda stupid... and yes "cheap" if you ask me.

The 965/975 are just the Intel chipsets. 3rd parties can support it in their own chipsets. The fact that it's a VIA is enough of a turn off to make me not get it.
Lol, i con go one better, the rig in the sig is running on a SiS chipset, my god does it suck ass, still one of the best overclocks ive ever got though

My parent's have a SiS chipset, and integrated graphics, it truely does suck. I've learned never to buy SiS. VIA was high quality in the AXP and Socket A days, I don't know what happened after that, they became value makers. ATI, still unsure. nVidia, great on AMD chips, still have issues with SLI on Intel, as has been noted of many motherboard issues with SLI and nVidia chipsets. Intel, great chipsets, work great, just love them. So either nVidia or Intel would suffice for me.
