Conroe Processors

Damn, and that's only the regular edition. Imagine what the 2.93 GHz Extreme version with 4 MB L2 cache and all can pump out. I just wish my wallet could pump out for it.
Who doesn't? That would be amazing to have, but then again in a few months is will probably be slightly outdated to another cpu

Guess what though, my next build may still be AMD. That $169 XC 3800+ AM2 is a really hard deal to pass up.

I don't know that $200 amd 4000+ x2 is a little harder to pass up. :D But that $300 conroe that competes with the fx-62 on some benchmarks is tough not to think about, oh well my comp is only 6 months old, by the time I build a new one AMD should have caught up.

Where have you found a 300$ conroe? the only ones i find are much more expensive. Just the motherboards supporting it are very espenive compared to others....

Arm_Pit,
Newegg has the highest extreme edition of the Core 2 Duo available at their site. They don't have any regular core 2 chips listed in the general CPU section though.

Like I've said, whatever gives me the best performance for my money, that's where I'll go.

Its the 2nd from the bottom, they are supposed to have 4 of them its like the 6400 i think or something like that.

Does anyone have prices for these processors? They sound pretty badass but I have no idea what their costs are!

Am I better off getting a 5000+ and going crazy on the mobo, video card, sound card, and ram?

I'm kinda nervous now... if I get the AM2 AMD board. I am wondering if I will be able to upgrade it to the next gen AMD pieces. Or if I will have to waste a lot more cash to upgrade processor/mobo.

I just want a gaming system I won't have to touch for like 2 years and still be able to play everything on max setting on a high resolution!

All the prices are messed up because the retailers are jacking up the prices because of the crazy high demand. Go with AM2 its somewhat future proof, but then again nothing in computers really is.

you can get easy on tigerdirect.com they have a lot of them

at least that is where i am going to order the E6600

and why would you pay so much for extreme when you can take the E6600 and some nice ram and get it to the same 2.93 and save a lot of money?

A lot of people don't like to overclock. Because especially if you mess it up, then you pay more money, for less.

that happens if you overclock it so high that the temps go crazy but if you go from 2.6 to 2.9 nothing wont hapen trust me

but if you went from 2.6 to 4.0 then yes you might fry it

gotta watch the temps and volt

what is the best site that i could but conroe from ? (it must ship internationally)
warranty is very important and also customer support

Yea.

Perhaps maybe a new person should stay away from volt modding. But as you said, that's not really a big jump, especially since the Conroes are hitting 4 GHz easy with no problems, 2.9 is miniscule. I'd just dislike voiding the warranty.

yea if you wanna keep the warranty but still its fun to overclock:D

Except you have a lot more options when oc the extreme edition, by the time you overclock it your well into the mid 3GHz's. But from some of the pre-release reviews of the conroes some people were getting 50% overclocks, without pushing it to instability, they didn't even go all the way. Imagine using a 4ghz e6800 ee.

Intel would never knew you overclocked your chip if something went wrong, unless you told them that you did. What they don't know won't hurt em.;)

Push it 'till it blows. 10GHz nothing less. :D

The great thing about the core 2's is they use much less power then most current cpu's, makes them excellent oc'ers, just like many mobile cpu's.
