Conroe vs FX-62... Guess who wins!

to be hoest if you put any old architecture vs a new one (in this case conroe vs K8) i would expect that.
Only intel have actually managed to screw up the newer is better rule when they went over to netburst.
Its not unexpected and AMD admit that the only difference is memory.

FX-62 isn't much better... and conroe still beats it in half of the tests... and the conroe is half the price:rolleyes: literally... im sorry, but FX-62 really isn't much better then the conroe... almsot a tie, nothing that is worth $600 more...

Yep, I agree, and Im pretty much set for conroe, just need a new mobo, but I think ill get new RAM and GPU while im at it.

Wow, I've always been an Intel customer, but I still knew that AMD was the winner for the past few years. It's gonna be intresting to have Intel back on top for a while, just like ATI has surpassed nVidia as of late (IMO). I'll be set to get a conroe sometime this year.

eh, hopefully an fx price drop will come soon and i can upgrade :)

though a friend of mine had an internship at intel, and he always told me something like this would be coming out.

AMD was gaining market share even on the average home user base, they had to come out with something, people were seeing through the numbers. (AKA. 3.8 GHz)

As a proud AMD owner I can only say that Conroe will win if AMD doesn't offer something new within a short period of its release. I'm hesitant to even consider purchasing an AM2 because I believe that it is going to be one of the shortest lived lines in AMD's history. I expect it to only last for a few months at best. So the real question is how well will AM3 stack up against Intel's latest offerings but for that we're going to have to wait a few months to find out.

The Conroe beats the FX-62 in every test except the ScienceMark memory tests, but we all know it's because of AMD's onboard memory controller, and their ability to access memory quicker.

All in all, the Core 2 Duo (Conroe), is going to be the best out there for a while.

Well Intel acknowledged they are working on an integrated memory system, but say they are doing everything they can to offer better performance without having to use it. I don't know why they don't use it in addition to what they have, but whatever. As for AMD, I don't recall seeing anything as large of a step up as Conroe in their roadmap. I remember K8L (AM2 chips, the L for the DDR2 controller), but no K9 in the roadmap.
