Consider Selling My Desktop: What kind of used market is there?

Hi everybody. I've been looking at laptops lately and even some of the "ultrabook convertibles" that just came on the market and I really want one.:P Looking at the specs on those things has got me thinking I can just ditch my desktop altogether, since it will be redundant to have two capable systems. That being said, I can't really justify a laptop if i keep my desktop. I don't want to just give my desktop away consider I just built it in the last year and spent a lot of money on it, so I'm thinking about selling it. What kind of market is there for used desktops?

To give you an idea of what I have; Gigabyte 880GM-USB3 motherboard, AMD FX4100, 8GB Gskill RAM, 1TB 7200rmp Seagate, 500w Cooler Master power supply, Gigabyte AMD Radeon HD 6850, and its all in a Raidmax Skyline case. I added up on new egg what it would cost to build now and it's a little over $600. A bit sad considering I spent over $800 when I put it together originally, but that's just the way technology is.

Is it worth selling? And what do you think it'd go for? Where should I try selling it?

Thanks in advance.

This is really a forum to discuss computers and help people with problems. For selling there's always ebay/gumtree/local newspapers etc

That's a half decent system but I really can't say how much you'll get for it - It's only worth what someone will pay for it.

I wasn't trying to sell it on here. I was merely curious what you guys thought resale value is for something like that. I know with my other hobby(RC aircraft) you can take whats it current retail value is new, cut that in half and that's about what you can except to get for it. However, with say guitars/music equipment they hold there value relatively well. I've never sold a computer though so I wasn't sure what to expect and what is reasonable to expect people to pay for used electronics.

You could probably shift it for $500-600 (maybe $700 tops) I reckon if it's quite new.

I'd put it on eBay. I always seem to get interest and if you start the starting bid quite low, you'll usually end up with people bidding and paying more than they need to. Set a reserve if you want to it to go for a set price.
