Considering An Apple

I have never used an Apple computer for more than 15 minutes at a time, in all honest, I don't particularly like the OS it runs. I find it too simplistic and personally fairly unattractive (At least compared to windows 7, XP was a different story). Though I am a huge, huge fan of the build quality of their products.

Apple was never even a consideration for me before I got my iPhone 3GS, I'm very impressed with it, even after about 6 months of having it. So I started to consider buying a Macbook. I don't need the complexity of a PC for a laptop, I wouldn't say I'm an expert with Windows but I do now my way around it very well. I've never needed to change the bios for my laptop, or go into the deep system settings, or really change anything - why would I? I do love Windows 7 though, and Windows will remain my preferred OS for my main computer as long as Microsoft keeps going in their current direction.

What I'm concerned about though is compatibility. I have a few external HD's I use between my PC and Laptop. I know Apple is advertising about how Apples are compatible with most Windows files now, but am I going to have issues when using the same external HD to switch files between a PC and a Mac? For instance videos, pictures, music, word files?

Are there any other things I'd would need to be concerned about?

Pictures, videos, music, documents, most of that should be fine. The biggest thing is how you have your computer configured. If you get a mac, there is a program you need to install which will allow you to use NFTS with Mac's. I will find out the name later when I have my laptop out, as I have it installed.

I'm familiar with bootcamp, I just was concerned about compatibility between my PC and Macbook.

Thanks for the help.
