Console considerations

Looks like after 13 year my PC gaming days are coming to an end, so many nice games over there, they are not releasing it for PCs, I wait for Last of Us, but they didn't, for GTA 5 they aren't, even if they release it won't be optimized much.
EA use to charge nicely for games over here, BF3 Limited edition preorder was $30 here, so was premium, but BF4 preorder is for nasty $70, even small repeated games like Fifa 14 are for $70. Here normal charges for console gaming were for $60 and for PC it was ranging from $20-$30. It is not that I can't afford it, but such a high price for same thing should be avoided, it is hard to pay 70+70 for game+DLCs.

That is why I am thinking to shift to consoles for games other than FPS. So what do you guys think I should get?? I am banking towards PS3,4??

I cetainly wouldn`t get any last gen consoles so close to the release of the ps4, although they do seem to indicating gta 5 will be released for pc, although quite some time after console release.

If they releasing on PC then it will be awesome, don't know how much time I will have to wait.

I recently quit pc gaming for the same reasons,I say grab a PS3..You can pick them up quite cheap now and you will be ready for when GTA V comes out,That reminds me i need to pre order my copy!

I cant see GTA V coming out for PC any sooner than a good 7 to 10 months after console release, obviously they will want to make as many sales on PS3 and 360 as they can for those who cant wait for the pc version, then i wouldn't be surprised if the PS4 version comes first then PC later, which those that also have consoles will probably buy it on PC too for the fancy graphics....all extra $$$ for rockstar.

If you want to buy new you may as well buy into the latest generation and wait until the PS4 comes out.

Almost all games launching with PS4 will also be available for PS3, so you won't miss that much by getting a PS3 now.

I get the idea, so whats the difference between 360 and PS3?
I remember I last tried PS2 way back in 2009. This will be the first console I will own after the old cassette gaming consoles.
So small tutorial about knowing more about consoles is good

p.s: I know how to use controller :)

PS3:

Bluray support
Free online play
No "party chat" support, ie speaking with friends whilst in different games to each other
Streaming services (Netflix, Lovefilm etc) are free (after the required subscription to Netflix/Amazon)
Rechargable controllers
Wireless/Ethernet support out of the box

Xbox:

Only DVD support. Will upscale to HD rather than have true HD like the PS3 as well
Online play is subscription based, having to pay for Xbox Live
There is party chat
You must have Xbox live to use the streaming services
Controllers require 2 x AA batteries, unless you get a charging pack (sold seperately)
Ethernet only on the original Xboxes, they do not have wireless internet support, you must buy the wireless device seperately.

Aside from that, the obvious aesthetics and game base. If the Xbox has more exclusive games that appeal to you, go for it, otherwise go PS3 should that have more that appeal. If it is tied, I would take the PlayStation, just for the additional features and lower running cost.

I have both and prefer my PS3 by far, so much so that I have not touched my Xbox in months, whereas my PlayStation is used every weekend and most nights to watch a film through Netflix or Bluray

If you wait a couple of months you should be able to find plenty of used ps3's and 360's along with games.

I suggest you buy used and spend the next year playing all the exclusives, such as the last of us, that you missed. After a year sell it and move on to the next gen consoles. You might not even lose any money as the market on this gen will have evened out as the early adopters have already unloaded their collections.

The other upside is that after a year several PS4 titles will have dropped in price and be available on the used market. There will also be many more games to choose from. You won't be picking out of sub-par ps4 games just to have something to play.

I would agree with this, if you are going to pick up a ps3 or 360 i would wait until the new gen consoles come out at the end of the year then prices for the last gen are bound to drop quite a bit, then you could wait until the ps4 etc have come down in price, they tend not to stay at initial release price for that long.

Sony is actually releasing a GTA V PS3 bundle as well if GTA V is one of your primary games that you are wanting to get. 500GB.

Just throwing that out there.

Looks like I will go for PS3 when 4 comes out. Thanks for the replies guys.:)

I have 4 words for you.

THE. LAST. OF. US.

Best game ever made. PS3 exclusive, and looks better than almost every PC game aside from maybe Crysis 3, Metro, and Tomb Raider (which it still competes rather nicely).

I was honestly blown away so much by the graphics and gameplay that I went and bought a brand new PS3 just for that game. Sold all my Xbox stuff and I now love my PS3 more than I ever liked my Xbox. It certainly is the better console, and that is coming from someone who you might consider an Xbox fanboy (even though I was a playstation fanboy before the Xbox first came out in the early 2000s).

It just amazed me that 8 year old hardware can do what I paid almost $1300 for my PC to do.

Also, far as I know there is no release date for either console. And I can assure you neither will release until after or around October. So if your ok waiting another 5+ months....
