Consoles are FAR weeker than PC's?

ok i was looking on internet and i found that even my crappy computer is doubley more poswerfult than a PS3.. by RAM.. by graphics and so on...

so why do they games so well?? and my computer can only just jun crysis on lowest res..

makes you relise that they aren;t that good for your money.. and wii sucks the most! (once you get over the novelty of moving.. they are REALLY crap)

I think its because the PS, XBOX and WII are running the pure game where the PC is running the operating system with it. Its puzzled me also.

hardware compatibility, the games are written in a much more efficient manner. think about it this way. when you write a game for xbox you know exactly what kind of hardware all xbox's have therefor you can design your game and fine tune it to work best on that particular hardware. For pc games they have to be able to run on all kinds of different hardware which makes it much more difficult to fine tune the game. I'm sure it also adds a lot of extra programming to the game as well in order to make it compatible with all that different hardware.

Just...dont. Nothing but bad comes from threads like this...
sorry ninja, but i do wonder..

and that makes sense, so if lets say you were a developer for PS3.. and you could make a high spec computer run as a pure console.. no operating systems or anything... it would kick even ps3's asssss... so in turn.. why don't playstation make pc spec consoles??

Why do they need to?If they can get a lot of money for something that's as low spec as that how much do you reckon they would make? But some of the components aren't "PC Standard" for instance doesn't the PS3 processor have 8 cores? A main one and the others for things like physics, AI stuff like that? I heard that on this forum I think...

ah now thats something i over looked lol... i looked at some stats on newegg (seems to be the place to shop on these forums!)... lol 9 cores must kill... so like it has a different core for every process it has... example: imagine if a computer had a core for like ms word and another for firefox, and another for CoD4...

now i see why they can chuck out such high res!

If you were rich and could pay some company a LOT of money...I'm sure they could develop a game (or edit a pre-existing game say....Crysis) that would run flawlessly (everything maxed) on a 5 year old laptop. (as long as they knew your hardware).

NOTE: I may have went overboard, but I think you get what I'm trying to say...

Consoles tend to last twice as long as your average/above average gaming PC as well, all the while garnering games with comparable graphics. Look at Oblivion, and the soon to be for released for console FarCry 2 (better than crysis, uh-huh). Like AdmnPower said, it's all about the optimization baby.

Uh, no. Not even close. Look at games being made nowdays for the xbox360 compared to the pc. Console games have a lot less triangle counts on pretty much everything compared to PCs, and same with the draw distance.

So...how was I wrong?

We've come to the conclusion that Consoles graphics are better because of the optimization...basically I'm saying if you could get a company to optimize a game to run on specific hardware (which would never happen) old hardware could run new(er) games.

I'm saying console games are made to look good, but are basicly dumbed down. They use a lot of tricks to make things look great, but have low triangle counts. Also they run at a lot lower resolution. Isnt standard tv only 520x480?
Also, consoles dont have to run a bloated OS, so none of that compatability layer crap.

to be honest, why would anyone care about a lower triangle count, as long as it looks good? ;)

anyways, I find most recent games to be programmed quite sloppy tbh. (sloppy as in, using a load of resources)
I mean, look at UT3, Rainbow six vegas and Bioshock. all 3 of these games use the same engine. yet UT3 is way easyer to run than the other 2 (I can run UT3 maxed out, no problem, the other 2 I cant)

True, I'm just saying that consoles arent much more "optimized" over PCs.

The 360 and PS3 are HD consoles, able to output a 720p resolution (somewhere around there) without sacrificing quality. Some games cheat alittle though, or so I hear..

The level of fine-tuning and optimization is subjective, true. Oblivion ran very well, medium settings or higher, on 360 hardware. It may not seem like a that huge a stretch to some people, but I'm sure the developers spent alot of time and effort coding the game for consoles, getting it to look the best it can with the hardware they were working with. They worked with the PS3 version for months before releasing it. That itself implies heavy optimization to me.

P.S. A console that has access to the internet can get malicious code. They'd have to be coded for the specific console platform, but it is happening, and the PS3 actually has a TrendMicro AV scanner.

Rly av on ps3? also, I isntently hate whomever owns a ps3.....ill get banned for saying the reason, i mod has an eye on me :P.
