Constant Comp Game Crashes

Hello all.

Right well, first off let me tell you that I've had nothing but endless problems with this heap of sh.... anyhoo, my problem is that, every game that is pretty intense on graphics seems to at one point or another crash on me (my computer spec is in my sig). Basically, BF2142 running at medium graphics, which is nice and smooth, will randomly eat up to nearly 800,000K of memory and then just crash out on me, CS:Source will freeze up in game on me for about 5 seconds until finally coming back to me, however it also does crash to desktop, and now the new NFS seems to crash randomly on me. Anyone got any suggestions on what it could be? I'm thinking it's either the motherboard or the memory, so I'm going to run memtest later on this evening (Although I know it'll pass, because it always does, so it's kind of pointless). The interesting thing is, in the odd crash with BF and CS, I get memory read/write errors with binary to follow, so I'm guessing that has to be something to do with the RAM. Any suggestions on what to do?

Best regards,

Breaks.

Nah I've never got the blue screen. I wouldn't have thought it would be the CPU or Graphics card over heating because they're both left at factory speeds (not overclocked) and I have purchased a really good cooler for my processor (check my spec, supposably this cooler is ideal for overclocking my processor dramatically, yet I have left it at factory settings) and my graphics card has the HIS Excaliber cooler on it which again, is there for major overclocking possibilities, yet I haven't overclocked that neither. I check the temps and they all read fine. It's quite a cold room too so the room temp isn't high at all.

so it just freezes and you have to restart the whole pc? i had this issue not long ago and found it was one of my ram sticks. Took it out and have not had a lock up yet. Also it could very well be that video card overheating i have an x1800xt with the stock cooler and it overheats if i don't change the fan speed with rivatuner so you might want to try that as well and see if it helps and do a memory test

I was thinking it was one of my memory sticks but everytime I seem to run Memtest my computer passes each time no matter how long I leave it running for :\.

then its not the memory.. ;) What are your temp's if i may ask? and tried updating your driver (video card) also, what PSU are you using? :)

Darnit, I knew I forgot a vital component in that sig somewhere :p My temps are as follows:

And the power supply I am using is: Antec SmartPower 2 450PGB 450W PSU - Atx 2.01 Dual Rails

I haven't yet no. I've only got to the point that it's annoying to hell out of me right now and this is my start to trying to sort it heh. Should I roll back on the graphics first? Mobo? Both? What would you recommend? Also, I'm going to run memtest again (urgh, the amount of times I've stared at this buggering thing I wish they'd include a dos game while you wait or something) and my HDD manufacturer tool to rule out them two for certain.

grafic's card driver :) those can bug you on games (i had it once with my 6800GT, driver rollback and it worked :o )

Ok, I'll give it a shot on a game for a little while, see if it crashes again, take a screenshot of the temperature using Speedfan after the crash, post it on here, and then do as you suggested. Thank you for your help so far :).

the probelm with measuring the temps after a crash, is that on boot-up, the coolers tend to run at max speed for a moment, that combined with an idle card brings the temps down quite fast again.

Well the computer doesn't restart, it just crashes to desktop, so I can have Speedfan running and once the game crashes to desktop, speedfan will immediately display me the temperatures. I just played NFS for about an hour now, checked my temps and when I came off my processor had climbed to 40C, that's nothing to worry about is it? Danger zone is something like 55+? Game never crashed this time though, so maybe you're right in saying it's temp related. I'll have to wait and see what happens upon next crash.

Well, to my surprise, I ran memtest about half an hour a go and left it to do two cycles and guess what I found when I returned:

So it seems that it's one of my memory modules unfortunately. Darnit. Means returning another bloody computer part and being rendered without a PC for weeks :(.

Do you think up'ing the voltage by .1 will do anything? Also, I would have thought that if it was a voltage problem it wouldn't fail in the exact same address and only on the one module? Surely it would have been random?
