constant display driver errors

revelation

I wasn't sure if I should put this here or in the video games board, but I figured this placed seemed more general so I couldn't go wrong. Sorry if out of place.

Every time I run a game the display driver errors and shuts the game down. My ati4870 was set to do antialiasing and such but now I told it to follow application settings and it doesn't do it as much. I mean it doesn't do it as quick. Before I changed that setting it would happen within 30 minutes of the game being on. Now I can go usually about 1-3 hours before it shuts me down. This gets really annoying with gears of war and morrowind(I know old game but gotta finish it before I play oblivion) Does anybody know what could be going wrong? Any settings you think I should check. I just built this comp about a month ago and now it's going haywire with this stuff. I'm hoping I accidentally clicked some setting but I can't figure it out. Hell, I don't even know if the problems really with the video card or if it was just a coincidence after I changed the setting.

I did use the ati's auto overclock once just to see how high it would go. Got 850 on the core and 910 on the memory out of that but i saved it as a profile and never use it. I run it at stock speeds with the fan uncontrolled getting 36-52C I've never seen it over 52. i was playing games and then minimizing them to check temps for a while so 52 shouldn't be too far off.

What should I do?

1 month old ati4870. It's the asus black knight model. Has a third party cooler. That's the black knight part.

EDIT: and it does have the latest drivers

I tried to play with cpu at stock clock also. Still has same error. Orthos has determined that this slight OC is stable after 23 hour test.

EDIT: All components same age as vid card as all were ordered as same build.
