Constantly disconnecting from modem

Hey, i have a desktop computer with a wired connection to a modem/router (Linksys WAG54G to be precise) and two laptops connected wirelessly. The Linksys has no problem connecting to the internet because the laptops are able to connect to the linksys and use the internet. But my desktop is acting strangely and keeps connecting to/disconnecting from the linksys. Sometimes it will be every few seconds, others it is every minute or so, and it sometimes works and there is no disconnection. My first thought was that the ethernet cable was dodgy so I changed it and nothing changed. Does it sound like a hardware or software fault? Is it the modem? the ethernet ports on the modem/router seem to work fine for playing live on the xbox 360. I'm dumbfounded.

If there is any information i forgot to include please tell me and i'll tell you.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply, but it seems like I've got the most recent version of the network card driver. How do you usually update yours?

I just wanted to update this thread in case someone else has the same problem. I completely misdiagnosed it. At first I did a antivirus scan and when it was done the connection was constant. But the problem started again in a few days.

The problem was hardware related. A common fault with the Linksys WAG54G is that when it is used for quite a while the (capacitors?) burn out and the ethernet ports stop functioning correctly. Changing the NIC settings for the network card to 10 full duplex will fix the problem for a while but inevitably a new device has to be purchased.
