Contrast Ratio?

It's basically the "distance" from pure black to the brightest white.
The higher the number, the more "distance" between the two points.
I think the concept is that the greater the contrast ratio, the clearer
the picture will appear while displaying it's range of dark and light colors.

Not sure, but my LCD TV has 30,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio.
I think it's different than straight contrast though.
EDIT:
My computer monitor has only 2000:1 contrast ratio.
8000:1 may be very good.
