i got counter strike to work, but when ever i click on a server it says "connection failed after 4 retries"

what about other games? also, are you behind a hardware firewall or a software one, for instance with some routers like my old belkin one you couldnt switch the firewall off, it would switch it off but then close all connections and when you reconnect the firewall would start again, this ment you had to manually open a port for your games
 
the olny other 1 is lort:bfme and that is set up way differently than CS:S so its kind of confusing, and lort works fine
 
you dont have any other steam games that you can try do you? Then you can see if its just CSS or all steam games.
