convert to SATA SSD on older Dell

I have an older Dell Latitude 610 which was my first laptop and has served me well but now the HD I replaced has also died, from what i've read SSD make more sense, also SATA looks better priced, I see there is a converter to allow me to install a SATA instead of the on board PATA interface, has anyone done this?

Don't waste your time. It's not worth putting any money at all into a D610.

As above, not worth it.

Also, you'd be stuck with effectively an IDE interface since that's the only interface that the board supports.

Even if you had a converter to go from SATA to IDE, you'd be limited to the speed of the IDE interface, which is up to 133MB/s, while current SATA SSDs have speeds of around 500-550MB/s.

thanks, makes perfect sense, I'll take the memory out and throw it away, it served me well and ran non stop for quite a few years, how about my Latitude E6400, right now it has replaced the older one and has 4gb memory and a 2.8ghz processor and works well, would a SSD conversion make sense, it gets hot, do you know if it is SATA?

Yeah you can stick an SSD in your E6400. I stuck one in my E6500 back when I owned it.
