Converting laptop insides to work inside a desktop case...

I have a laptop that was dropped about 10 feet. The screen was shattered, but the case itself is still in decent shape and the laptop itself runs perfectly normal. I've had to keep it sitting upside down on my desk and have it connected to an external monitor and it works like a charm. So, as an alternative to just buying a new screen for it, is it possible to take the internal hardware out of the laptop casing and somehow adapt it to be mounted inside a desktop case and still having access to the ports?

No. You can get a screen for around $70 and usually easy to replace.

Not really, laptop layouts are pretty proprietary and differ from a large degree to their ATX desktop counterparts.

You'd be better off just having it in its existing housing.
