Can cookies downloaded by one browser be seen by cookies/software running/downloaded by another browser?

I have been visiting security sensitive sites using one browser and doing general browsing on another, all on the assumption that the latter will have no idea what the former is doing. Is that a safe assumption?

thnx

Interesting question and I assumed cookies from one browser could not be read by another browser, but I looked it up. I found that common HTTP cookies are not cross browser capable because the cookies are stored in the browser's own data files. However, apparently there are Flash based (shock wave file or .swf) cookies that are stored in a location separate from the browser, and these are cross browser capable. Here are a couple of articles I found on this subject if you are interested.
