Cookies and tracking...?

I'm currently hooked up to the Internet via a network cable, to a family member's Internet connection. The network cable is connected from the main computer to my laptop. I'm a bit weird about them possibly tracking the website I visit (nothing crazy, just slight paranoia on my part), so my question is-- is there any way to prevent this? Nothing illegal, but are there any files that get recorded on the main computer that I can get rid of to prevent them from checking my website history, if there is such a thing? Thanks for the help, and excuse my cluelessness.

you could always use a proxy server.

What do you mean? And sorry about my lack of knowledge, really.

Originally, I tried to hook up to the connection with the wireless network, but that was password-protected. Using the network cable didn't require me to use a password.

If you clean out your browser histroy and use ccleaner, so they can't view the history, then, no they can't track it.

I know on some ISPs, you can request what websites are being visited.
