Coolermaster Scout - Word of warning

So here's a little word of warning regarding these cases. Don't buy them :P

At work someone brought in a dead HP with an Athlon x4. They decided to have us replace the mobo and PSU then place everything in a new case. We just got the Coolermaster Scouts in so they wanted to use that.

I built the computer, everything went fine. Primed it, everything seemed perfect. However, I soon realized it had a major shorting issue. I first realized when trying to power it off once that any time I touched the front panel, the system would reset. I tried swapping the mobo, PSU(like and different models), case (identical one) but always had the same issue. Actually, it was so bad, I could simply build up static in my chair then wave my hand about an inch over the machine and it'd reset! In the end, the customer agreed to using an Antec 300. The build went together without any problems.

I really like that Coolermaster case. Wiring was very easy, it looks great, and seems like it'd be easy to work in/upgrade. But seriously, they have some major issues with that front panel.

I never recommend them anyway because it's just a rubbish case. :P

Every Cooler Master case is easy to work with. The Scout is just a Gladiator 600 with a black interior and handle on top.

We've had a couple returns of the Scout. Mostly because of the front panel LED's not working, or the buttons not working at all. Open it up, and it looks like it was put together by a monkey.

Sounds like they have a number of issues with the front pannel then. I guess it really suprised me seeing how many positive reviews I saw around the net.

I really wanted to get to the front panel to see the wiring and all, perhaps even wire in a ground. However the screws holding the top down were stripped :P

Well, it's not a huge issue. I think we sold, or built with, about 60 or more Scouts. I think 4 or 5 came back. I think it's just down to CM cutting corners. We have an unbelievable profit margin on CM cases. I try not to think about the actual cost of the case. :P
