Have you ever worked with an aluminum case like a lian-li or mountainmods? They are made from 1mm up to 2mm thick aluminum. You may be thinking of thinner steel cases like the coolermaster elite, which are only 0.5mm steel. Aluminum cases are strong and well built, and expensive due to the cost of aluminum. Right now i am struggling to think of any aluminum cases that are flimsy...
As for plastic...im not a fan of it either, if i could build myself a perfect case it would basically be a nice simple design like a mountain mods or lian-li and made from aluminum,

Only touched one Lian Li... never lifted it. I did hold one of those cheaper ones, and that's what I'm talking about.

We have a Lian-Li case at work, with a 74Gig Raptor drive in it, and it's the noisiest, vibrating...est thing I've ever heard. I guess even Lian-Li has a line of el-cheapo's.
Green and Black yes, Orange cathodes?

Well, how noisy is it? Most lian-li's are pretty quiet, if anything the raptor is probably what makes it loud. (Even lian-li's lancool line are pretty quiet)

That's the whole point isn't it? Of course I don't mean the case itself makes noise...that's why I included the Raptor in the scenario.
It's the loudest of our newer builds. It's a cheap, badly insulated case that cost around $150 and you can hear the Raptor crunching away, vibrating the whole case. Junk.

Yeah, those cheaper cases are made of thin steel, not aluminum
Naw, it was an aluminum, it was just one of those real thin ones.
