Cooling Problems?

well do ou have such a laser-thermometer (or something like that), so you can measure it yourself while he pc is urned on? then o could pomard both maument and see if they are te same

No, I don't, but I think it became really obvious last night after we booted the system after being away for the weekend and now the mobo refuses to acknowledge the existence of the onboard LAN. Looks like the entire board is failing so I'll replace it today and keep my fingers crossed.

Oh yes, we have complete mobo system failure. Every time you reboot the system, you lose something. At the moment, the onboard network, mouse, and temp diode are all shot and the keyboard is failing. We've already contacted Gigabyte for RMA info, the stupid board is less than 6 months old.

In fact, we RMA'd the last one too, also less than 6 months old. What a bunch of crap.

Haha

I still think Gigabyte makes very decent boards (especially the new ones). I have come across numerous people who deal with many motherboards telling me that ASUS and MSI can come in bad batches as well and cause problems. Therefore, I do not hesitate to buy something that has gone bust again if I liked it because it happens to all manufacturers and simply cannot be eradicated.

JAN :D

Yeah, Gigabyte is ok. The only time I stop going to a given manufacturer is if there are repeated problems, like if I got 2-3+ bad boards from them.

A weird way to cool the processor. The normal fan that came with it get burnt. so what i did was i had an extra fan that installs on the casing of the cpu and its working far better than the normal one. and i am getting a better performance on my system now. Weird haa

I would suggeest a different make, perhaps ASUS or MSI.

I'm going with an MSI board this time which I've yet to have a problem with. The last time the Gigabyte board went bad, it refused to acknowledge half of the memory. PC Club replaced the board under warranty, but I see that they don't carry these boards anymore.

Still waiting to hear on the RMA request.

AMD Athlons do run really hot but 62 degrees idle is a bit high. Is your room temp really high? and what cpu does your computer have?

Now that I've got the new mobo in, it's much, much better. The temp under load is about 52 degrees and we've had no problem. The room temp is a little high, maybe around 85-87 during the hottest part of the day, but that's only because exterior temps are over 100. We are putting in a dedicated room A/C unit this weekend though which should bring temps down some more.

Her CPU us an Athlon XP 2400+ although I'm probably going to upgrade it.

The funny thing is, my computer has a faster, hotter processor, is sitting right next to hers, and runs at least 10 degrees cooler.

Reducing the video refresh rate has dropped the temp to about 55C but that's still way too high.
Is that onboard video?

There's nothing wrong with using the stock thermal grease. I use Zalman's ZM-TG1 thermal grease ($5 for 2.5ml) and it works just as well as AS5.
It doesnt work as well as AS5. But that's not to suggest its not good enough. Only a few products match AS5 (Nanotherm's stuff and the OCz Ultra5)

Actually, it's using AS5.
Maybe too much thermalpaste?

then o could pomard both maument and see if they are te same
What?

Why do i get the feeling you're not being consistent with temperature scales? ;)

What do you have?
