Hi

I recently bought a dvd recorder. Just wanted to know if there was any software out there (especally freeware :P ) that allowed me to convet these to a .avi or .mpg etc? The stuff is not encrypted (as Im making them) but want to be able to play them on my PC as a normal video file.

He's saying that hes recording things onto his DVD Recorder that arent encrypted, and wants to find a way to convert it to AVI, its not against forum rules.

I believe Nero can do that, but you can just google for "DVD to AVI converter".

Read forum rules. If you have questions about topics that arent allowed in this forum, just google it.

AND?!

I said before, its not encripted. I am trying to convert files off my friends DV camera and a dvd recorder. I am well aware of the encryption issues, I understand why they are there. Im not trying to break encryption! The reason I am asking is because the files our camera/recorder makes have the same structure that a dvd does. I can copy these dirrectories onto my hard disk and play them using a media player, I just want them in mpg or avi format. What is so illegal about that, it is media that I have created!! Most of it is of me and my friends

Joe2003, there is absolutely nothing wrong with converting home videos to other formats.

A good freeware program might be something like this, it's pretty comprehensive. It converts .vob files to all sorts of other formats.
