core 2 duo comparisons

Would a Core 2 Duo e6600 perform just as well as a Core 2 Extreme x6800 if you overclocked the e6600 to 2.93GHz? From what i see the only difference is that the operating frequency is higher on the x6800.

A better comparison would be to drop the X6800 to the 6600s speed. When you go the other way, the 6600 would perform better because it would have a higher bus speed. You are right though, the only differences are the 6800 has unlocked multipliers (making it very expensive) and a higher stock multiplier.

So its just the higher operating frequency that makes it better. So when the E6350 comes out, if you had one of them and overclocked it to 2.93GHz it would out perform the x6800 cause of the higher bus speed?

Performance wise, the E6600 overclocked to 2.93Ghz will perform a bit better then the X6800 at stock 2.93Ghz, because the E6600 would have a higher bus speed.

As cromewell said, the X6800 is best known for its unlocked multipliers. You can overclock an E6300 or E6700 to 2.93Ghz and it will perform about the same, but you can overclock the X6800 alot higher then you could any other of the Core 2 Duo series CPU's.

Anychance anybody know how much the E6350 is gonna sell for on release?

My birthdays coming up and i'm possibly thinking about upgrading my cpu and just wanted to see if an overclocked cpu would be just as good as the higher models. So i dont have to spend a bunch on a CPU. No point in paying a bunch of money for a good CPU when you can buy the lower end model and overclock it to perform just as well or better then the x6800.

Supposed to be the same price as the e6300 now i heard and the "00"s might get a 40 dollar decrease someing in april? Idk though.
