Core 2 duo E4300

E6300 is a Conroe, other is Allendale. I'm sure the differences you stated are the main reasons.

The E6300 is actually an Allendale. Only the E6600 and up w/ 4MB of L2 cache are Conroes.

It's just a codename, there actually identical with the exception that one has 4MB of cache and the others have 2MB.

As for the price difference, the E4300 just came out, but they will drop in price.

No, E6300 is Conroe

Actually both E6300 and E6400 have 4MB cache, but intel has disabled 2MB.

Intel will release E6320 and E6420 which are similar to E6300 and 6400 but they will have their full 4MB cache enabled

The screenshot of my previous E6300 also showed Conroe, but as far as I know, only the processors with 4MB of cache are actually Conroe's, which the 2MB cache CPU's are Allendales.

Thats very true the one that have 2MB cache are Allendales, and 4MB cache are Conroe

E4300 has 2MB and thats why it is Allendales

E6300 and E6400 have physically 4MB cache, but just half of their cache is disabled. But since E6300 and E6400 actually have 4MB then it is considered as Conroe

Please read these websites, it says that E6300 and E6400 are Conroe

From wikipedia
For a very long time, it was considered that stripped down versions of the Conroe processors were code-named Allendale. In actuality, Allendale is a code name for a different processor. Many suggest that E6300 and E6400 are actually code-named Allendale, however, the E6300 (1.86 GHz) and E6400 (2.13 GHz) processors are not code-named Allendale because they physically have 4 MiB cache, same as their big brothers E6600 and E6700 — it is just that half of their physical memory is disabled. Traditionally, CPUs of the same family with less cache simply have the unavailable cache disabled which allows parts that fail quality control to be sold at a lower rating. The fact that E6300 and E6400 are not code-named Allendale and actually code-named Conroe has been confirmed by Intel themselves.
from techreport
You'll find plenty of sources that will tell you the code name for these 2 MiB Core 2 Duo processors is "Allendale," but Intel says otherwise. These CPUs are still code-named "Conroe," which makes sense since they're the same physical chips with half of their L2 cache disabled. Intel may well be cooking up a chip code-named Allendale with 2 MiB of L2 cache natively, but this is not that chip

Just to clear things up, Intel has confirmed that ALL C2D E6xxx processors are CONROE. The low end Conroe's just have 2MB of their L2 disabled, however, they are still under codename Conroe. Allendale is a totally different C2D processor, kind of like the P4 Northwood and P4 Prescott

I see that now, but I remember when the Core 2 Duo's were first coming out, everyone was saying that the E6600, E6700, and X6800 were Conroes, and the E6300, E6400 were Allendales. Maybe it was just speculation...

I know, I remember thinking that as well. Now, though, it all makes sense now that the 4xxx and 6x2x series are coming out.

The 4300 will be lowered in price once prices stabilize.
