Core 2 Duo hiccupping during multitasking?, Why?

This shoudn't be happening, but it is....

I just got a new Intel Core 2 Duo 6600, and was multitasking like mad, having Netscape Navigator going with about 10 tabs, an anti virus scan going and iTunes was playing music-and the computer was hiccupping. What is up with this? I thought Core 2s weren't supposed to do this?? I guess Intel's statement that with the Core 2 you can:"Do more at the same time, like playing your favorite music, running virus scan in the background, and all while you edit video or pictures. "-is a bunch of crap. Is this processor related, which I'm thinking it is?

I also tried to play a game online, Command and Conquer Generals, which isn't that intensive-and the game hiccupped also. I closed itunes and most of the other apps except for navigator, and the game was still stuttering. Cpu usage was about 3/4's of the way up on both cores during this. Could the game stuttering have been due to my router or the cpu? If it is the CPU, should contact Intel?

the first scenario could be caused by any number of things other than a 'poor' CPU. your in game hiccupping could be due to your video card. run a stress-test using software of your choice and see what happens

Here are my system specs: GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX, Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 , ATI Radeon x1900XT 512, 3 Gb DDR2, 250 Gb SATA.

If you're in vista, and music playing is lagging, blame vista drm...(it'll be the one in your process list along with audiodg.exe that'll be taking about 10 or 20 cpu percentage..). Otherwise, you can't expect to get an answer from us without doing some stress tests or benchmarks first >_>.

do you have a wirless connection? i know i get hiccuping on my computer when i have my wireless searching for a network when it cant find one

Ya, I have a wireless connection. Do you think that could be the prob?

Maybe with the game, but with the multitasking, I still don't know....
