Core 2 duo vs. Quad core HELP??

I'm building a computer and I'm trying to decide; should I go with the 6700 core 2 duo or is it worth it to buy the Q6600 quad core or should I save up more money and go with the core 2 extreme 6700? Are the Quad cores good enough to justify there price. Also I plan to keep this cpu for 2-4yrs.

but how long is it going to take for the price to drop on the 6700? and are quad cores 2x as fast as the duo's

i dont think its that they are twice as fast. they can just perform twice as many things at a time efficiently.

Just remember that it may take some time for a Quad core to be fully utilized in most Apps.. you won't be getting the fullest out of a Quadcore for another couple years.
