Core 2 Duo?

they are a new(ish) line of dual core processors from intel like kesava said. for a while they were the king of CPUs, now we have core i7 which is becoming the new standard. depending on your motherboard and your budget, you may be limited by what you are able to upgrade to. if you are confined to a pre-existing socket LGA775 motherboard I would suggest getting either an E8500 or one of the core2quads. if you are looking at building an entirely new computer i would strongly suggest the i7 920.

How much does the i7 920 cost? And are there many motherboards that support the new socket type? how much is a decent cheap one?

the i7 920 is around $290 on newegg at the moment. there is a good selection of LGA1366 motherboards, but being the latest and greatest, none of them are cheap. they tend to start at around $200 and only go up from there

Ah so I'd wanna save up to get one then?

Maybe you should STOP TEMPING ME? haha. I mean I have a Q6600 and basically don't do anything that utilizes its power. I mean I watch moves, browse the web, and game somewhat, but I don't do anything to justify an upgrade :) still if I let my mind control me, I'll end up getting one. And that can't happen cos I really don't need it haha

if you have a Q6600 or one of the fancier core2duo chips, you have plenty of breathing room :)

it all depends on your needs/wants/budget. if I were building a system from scratch, you bet your ass it would be an i7 build. but at the same time, I wouldn't discourage someone from upgrading a pentium 4 to a core2duo or quad either, because both of those will still be very practical CPUs for quite a while.
