Core 2 Duo

With Intel coming out with the Core 2 Duo processors later this month, would it be worth it to wait till the end of the month/early-mid next moth to buy a new laptop, either for hoping that the new processors will show up in online models (at dell or some such) or that older model prices drop? I'd prefer to make the purchase by mid-august, so will the wait matter at all?

Not necessarily, yes the c2d will kick, however you are better off waiting like you were asking, but it doesn't meant that many manufacturers will be offering them right away, i mean even alienware just released their lappys with core duo. I have a 2ghz core 2 duo and its more than i will ever need on a laptop, my amd 3700+ is here for that type of stuff. Wait and see what is available at the time you need to buy.

Does the word merom mean anything to you. Its the lappy version of the core 2, and it is supposed to be released sometime in august.

Yes it is, as bball said the codename is Merom and is due out in August. However laptop mfg's such as Dell, Compaq, Sony, Ect, may not include the Core 2 Duo as a choice for quite some time.
