Core 2 quad Q6600

I just received this cpu. I installed it and powr on the pc. the pc get crashed before it get to the windows loading screen.

I had use a core 2 duo E6320
asus motherboard p5n-e sli
2 gb gskill rams
500w psu

those are component i had before installing the core 2 quad cpu.

when booting with the quad cores, when i enter the bios i can see that the 'cpu speed' is only 600 Mhz, I don't know if this is causing the auto-shutdown. this motherboard is picky with the ram timing, i need to set the ram timing to exact as the ram default timing when i used to run the E6320 cpu.

I did try clear the cmos and the problem persist. I try to set the timing in the bios but i am not fast enough to complete before the system auto crash.

i'm not sure, but I'm thinking that that 600MHz is too high. i think it's that MHz times the multiplier number, therefore that could be the problem. wait for an answer from someone who knows more about that.

what did you do with that E6320 CPU? if it's just sitting around i'll take it off your hands as i am in need of an LGA processor badly

Set CMOS to it's standard settings, then put the Q6600 in... the E6320 might've been overclocked... and that Q6600 may have been forced to overclock too...

Otherwise, you could have a unsufficient power supply.

You did use thermal paste and made sure the CPU fan was properly attached and connected right? I know it's an obvious question, but many people forget.

Like OMEGA said, thermal paste. Also make sure you're using the cpu fan from the Q6600, not the other processor. Also make sure the motherboard supports the processor...

i found out my problem, i was using the old heatsink which i thought it was good when i used it to overclock the E6320. but i dont know why i the heatsink doesn't have 100% contact with the cpu thus it cause the cpu to auto shutdown when the temperature get high. to me when i insert the heatsink over the cpu it was firm, attached. but somehow maybe the thermal was lacked. so the problem is solved when i use the new heatsink that come with the Q6600.

But i am disappointed why i cannot get past the 2.7GHZ overclock. I did research, and look at result that people overclock speed. they have same cpu as i have SLACR Q6600. i heard it like winning a lottery with this stepping.

I have P5n E sLi motherboard, i hasnt update my bios to latest yet. i will and hopefully it will overclock better. beside the bios, anyone think it can be something else refraining the cpu to reach 3.3Ghz? typical overclock speed for SLACR Q6600.

Nexolus, if you want to buy my E6320 core 2 duo, i am accepting offer. and we can discuss about this. I accept paypal. if this work out well i dont have to waste time selling it on ebay. the stable overclock speed for me on this cpu is 3.2Ghz (stock heatsink) using the same parts metioned above.

Flashing the BIOS should have no effect on overclocking. I'd invest in some good CFM case fans... and a good cooler. Overclock AFTER you have some Arctic Silver 5 or Arctic MX-2... Good stuff for the cash.

Also I'd suggest some of that compound under the northbridge cooler... And maybe a fan on the northbridge heatsink.

So did you re-apply the thermal paste or not? It sounds like you didn't.

... You should have known you couldn't buy or sale without 100 posts from each user, and a overclocked Q6600 regardless of the stepping should at least get $225-$250 in my opinion. Don't sell.

i'm going to settle this with him outside of the forums, you can't control whether or not i purchase from him anyways.

also you should read more of the thread that you're commenting on because i'm not buying his q6600 i'm buying his e6320.

it doesn't matter how much it originally costs. i could buy a jetta in1999 at $20,000 dollars. think i'll get my money back today? in the case of CPU's it's worse, because for one, it's overclocked meaning its life will be shorter and two, CPU's have a shorter life than a car.
