Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor QX6700(QUAD) 2.66GHz
ORRRRRRRR
Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor X6800 2.93GHz
Which??
Just wondering because they are the same price

The quad is cool, just because it is quad core. It starts at the E6700's normal clocks, instead of the X6800 but has unlocked multipliers like the 6800.

I would go with the QX6700. The x6800 performs a bit better in games today, but if your keeping the CPU for more then a couple months, definitely go with the QX6700.

the only thing is that games cannot use all 4 cores yet. They will be able to in the near future, but I haven't seen a game that can apply all 4 cores. But if they are the same price, the QX6700 would be the way to go.

There arent any games out now, but from what i've heard, HL2: EP2 will support quad-cores, and it will assign a certain task to each core. Such as one core processes weather, etc.

the only reason to buy a proc that expensive is in the hope that it will last for the future quad core is built for the future so i think it would be stupid to buy a dual core thats that expensive

Flight Simulator X SP1 does now suppoer 2 and 4 cores.

Go with the QX6700. With the right MOBO and a good cooling system you can OC it to 3.7GHz. The QX6800 is about $400 more but isn't available to the general public yet.

I get your point

and
Im keeping it for at least a year
Also, I am not going OC because yea, I am a heavy gamer but I also have a job and I don't want to waste few grands every year just for processors. It was horrible 7 years ago too when P4 came out, I OCed and boom dead in few months(I guess I overdid the overclocking, didn't know better back them)

Well, to generally put it, if you overclock it to 3.7GHz, the performance will drop dramatically in few months(Happened to me) but I guess thats alright still deciding what processor I should get... and its really easy to get hands on one of those two, its just not available at well known resellers because no one would buy from them anyways(Guessing MSRP would be more expensive that online stores, thats too expensive) like if you look at E6700, its about 300 dollars more expensive at stores than online, you could buy a oretty good water cooling system with that or a good computer case. :P
