My core i7 2700k from time to time drops from 5.0 ghz to 1.5. What settings are cuasing this? I know the power management settings should be disabled.

I don't have a sandy bridge chip but for my i7 it was in the general CPU configurations. Not where you would find the Overclocking settings. I believe that the C states need to be disables as well.

from this guide:

Make sure you DISABLE all of the following advanced CPU features (to stabilize multiplier and voltage):
C1E-DISABLE (With some boards like ASUS please keep C1E, EIST, and C3/C6 enabled at the moment, MSI and Intel boards you can turn these things off, but I am guessing Asrock will need it on as well)
EIST-DISABLE
C3, C6 States-DISABLE
CPU Thermal Monitor-DISABLE

All c states disabled, and eiss disabled. Fixed it
Thanks. I have it on 1.45 vcore and 1.6 dram. Is this ok? Reading 28c due to ridiculous cooler. Lol

Did you just set it for 5.0GHz and hope for the best? I would set it back to stock and work your way up the right way.

If you really don't want to start from the beginning try 4.0GHz @ stock voltage. Once you get it to pass Pirme95 for a few minutes take it up.

Take off the settings that you have applied for the ram OC and enable XMP. This will set the proper voltages and timings for your RAM. It is best to do it this way when you are setting your RAM over 1333.

yes and depends. If you want the highest possible O/C then turn hyperthreading off, but you'll lose a fair bit of performance on highly threaded programs.
