Only yesterday we have reported that Intel plans to launch the Core i7 970, here, and we can confirm that the CPU is real and that this is yet another six core.

Core i7 970 is not an extreme version but this six core will run at 3.2GHz. Naturally it has 12 hyperthreading cores and its QPI delivers 6.4GB/s. With the help of Turbo overclocking this CPU will be able to reach the 3.46GHz mark and it supports 1066 DDR3 memory.

The TDP is 130W, the same as with the 3.33GHz clocked Core i7 980X. The Core i7 970 should launch in Q3 2010.

looks nice. Wish i could afford it though :P I think i'll end up going to an i3, then save for an i5/i7.

Supposedly Thuban hex core is suppose to be released in quarter one of 2010, so any week now. They'll have three speeds available, 2.4, 2.6,, and 2.8ghz.

BUT, thuban is just 6 deneb cores, so even an I7 920 or 860 will probably beat it in most tasks....and the 970 will destroy it.

Well that depends on how well it overclocks really. The low end 1035T will only be 2.4ghz and the highest end 1075t will only be 2.8ghz, and I don't think any of the initial thuban hex cores will be black editions. But either way I think it will give the I7 some competition, certainly more than the 955 and 965 have.

I'm really hoping AMD gets their S*** together and releases bulldozer before it's too late. The Zambezi octo-core looks promising, since intel is releasing their hex core with hyper threading already AMD needs to come back with a punch in the face with the octo core before intel does.

The six core 980 is set to price at $1,171. Right now - the 975 is just under 1,000 bucks and it's a quad core - so the price differentiation isn't " THAT MUCH "

The 970 will be something lower than that - I'm Guessing $400-$500

Right now the $1,000 core i7 975 is what gives us the core i7 920 @ $279.
