man technology progresses quickly... Core i7 quad core processors with hyperthreading:

Initial products based on this microarchitecture are expected to be in production in the fourth quarter of this year. These processors will feature Intel Hyper-Threading Technology, also known as simultaneous multi-threading, and are capable of handling eight software "threads" on four processor cores.

I think you may have mis-read this new info. For starters the new i7 core isn't 'back' to hyperthreading more rather its a similar technology. At this stage it looks to be in response to AMD's new tech, Hypertransport 3.0

The new core is bring released in around six months and will debut on the X58 chipset, which is not only a new socket type, but also has NO FSB!! :O Instead they are using a new technology called Quick Path Interconnect (QPI). So forget everything you ever knew about overclocking because its all about to change. Though the processors are still going on 45nm technology they are tipped to go to 36nm by the end of 2009.

More on this soon ;) But cant wait for this!

Well Intel's current processors don't use it, so I'd say they are doing pretty darn good without it.

yea, they are, but fsb doesnt multiply the way adding more cores does. of course, hypertransport does! thats why socket AM2 is more upgradeable, #1 because AMD stuck with 65nm for now, and #2 because any hypertransport at all doesnt bottleneck quad core.

i mean my brother has a motherboard that supports AM2 and so does my aunt. both of them can flash their bios and upgrade their motherboards to quad core from single core, both computers over a year old. not that they need quad core.. they really dont lol..
