So has anyone purchased an corei7 yet? I was thinking about upgrading to it this summer, though since I just got a core 2 quad, a new motherboard, and new ram last summer, I'm wanting to know how much better it is. I've been told just the extra pins adds 25% perforamance.

The setup I was thinking was this:

Still haven't picked out a heatsink yet, and newegg has only one and it's incredibly shitty, and I want to try and order everything as a bundle. Now with a heatsink, I think I will be spendingly roughly $950, but I hope prices will drop a decent amount by mid summer.

Thoughts?

Well I play crysis, so I'm sure that will use it well, and I'm sure a lot of upcoming games that are high end will utilize the corei7 better.

crysis isn't really a multi-threaded app if i remember correctly, i think farcry2 would see an improvement, and that improvement would only be 3-10 fps depending on what size moniter mostly

Like just a noob said, the biggest improvement will be in areas like video encoding, unless you had a video card that was such a monster that it was being bottlenecked by your "old" core 2 quad (doubtful).

I actually think my core 2 quad is bottle necking my GX2 at the moment. It's a Q6600 OC'ed to 2.9ghz, and when I upgraded from my gts to my gx2 I didn't see any improvement in crysis.

Since Christmas break has started I'm going to OC further and play around more since I'll have the time. I think if I can get it running at like 3.5ghz I would keep it for a lot longer.

if you really really want to waste your money, go out and buy a core i7, i doubt you'll be seeing much of an improvement though
