Core or CPU temps?

I'm just curious what you guys tend to look at when keeping an eye on your computers. I primarily watch my core temps and I'm beginning to wonder if that's why my temps seemed high. Eh, but maybe it is just me and my build runs hot. I used the smear method and all to apply my thermal paste

I use the spread method too. Always worked better for me. What kind of case do you have, is its air flow pretty good. If your room temp. is alittle high 75 or above it can run the CPU temp up a few degrees.

I'm actually being a bit off topic, but how many fans are going on in there?
I tend to feel the more the merrier, I have:
1 at the front blowing in
1 at the back blowing out
1 on the side blowing in
1 on the heatsink (obviously)
And there's also that large PSU fan under the PSU
And another on the graphics card ;)

I confirmed the air flow is good, and does pass over the heatsink
The only thing better would be either water cooled or a Fan on top of the case blowing hot air out

Room temp is about 77*F. I use the Cooler Master centurion case from my last build with an 80mm fan on the front and 120mm on the rear and a Cooler Master V8 cooler.

While running Prime95, it appears the CPU temp maxed out around 62*C and the highest core was about 71*C. This is with a 3.33GHz overclock.

I think that's pretty good
Unless your room becomes a bit hotter one day. Most users usually get really concerned in the Summer months when the CPU temp becomes more of an issue

You do have the cooler turned front to back, with it pulling out the back case fan. You could add a 120 front fan if it fits or if not put a extra intake side fan.

I'm quite sure it's all configured right. And don't get me wrong, I'm not worried about my temps... Even if they are a bit high, they're still within a resonable threshold.

Also...do you have any idea how large the V8 is? Clearance between it and the side of the case is...well, there is no clearance there :P The cooler's practically hitting the case!

I bet you have the centurion 5 case, the round vent is straight across from the cooler and has a square vent at the bottom. If so that kinda kills using the round vent with a V8.

Yup yup, it's a Centurion 5. I was thinking that's what it was but couldn't recall for sure. I had to remove that whole vent/tube/thingy so I'd even have a remote chance of cramming that V8 in here and closing the case :P

Dont really know other then a 120 in the front and see if the 80 would work in the square vent at the bottom side. If any of the vent holes lined up with the fan screw holes. Could try a higher RPM/CFM 120 in the back. Yeah its a pain to remove the board to try a different way with the conpound. Maybe try a little bigger case later on.

I actually had a pair of 120mm fans I was going to install in here once the parts arrived, but I then realized I could only stick an 80mm in the front :P But honestly I was more worried about noise than airflow. Heck I have some 80mm's in my closet that probably beat most 120mm fans...but you can also hear them from outside the house :P

But once again, I'm not worried about my temps, I was more just curious if I was reading the wrong details. *shrugs* But heck, cores don't exceed 65*C under heavy use, and 72*C under burn-in tests. I'm fine with those temps.

Yeah, I got a couple of Antec 80mm and they sound like mini helicopters. You could lay then in the floor face down and they would take off.

Peel back the little sticker on the fan
remove the small round plastic or rubber grommit
Place a couple of drops of sewing machine oil, or better yet a small dob of greece inside
Return the grommit and sticker
The fan will be quiet again ;) (usually like new)

Oh no no, it's not that they are bad. They are very high performance fans. They were never quiet :P

Oh

Well please try the normal quiet fans first
Hmm, I'd like to have performance fans, I'm not that worried about noise, I might look into that

Note the performane fans were "in my closet" :P I had them in a build a couple years ago and got fed up with all the noise  My build now is actually pretty quiet.
