Core2 E6750 clock speed..

ok...im trying to get head around the Core2 Duo's core speeds. On a review it says the clock speed of the E6750 is 2.6Ghz. So is that two 2.6Ghz cores or what?

Does anyone know if dual-core support in programs exists yet? Or if it's build in to the CPU? All I've heard is that Quake 4 has a patch, and that's all I know. It would be a shame if they are already releasing quad cores and the dual cores didn't even get the proper program support yet to see their full potential.

Otherwise, without that support, it's just a plain CPU with 2.6 Ghz for a program that wont support it.

Do all pre-core 2 duo games support it as well?

Otherwise if ther's no support needed, then I dunno why ther's a patch for Quake 4.

Games and apps need to be coded to take advantage of each core concurrently. I don't the exact number of these "multi-threaded" apps and games, but i do know that most present-day programs are being coded to accomplish exactly that, a coexistent threaded state.

Quad-threading isn't as prevalent as dual-threading, but we shouldn't expect this fact to remain substancial for long; by the end of '09/'10 we might see 8/12/16 core processors taking hold in the market.
