Core2 slow Windows7

I've got an app that runs really slow on my Windows7 PC with Intel Core2 Duo processor.

At first, I thought it was the app (.net using mysql). But then I ran it on a Windows7 PC with Pentium4 processor, and it ran perfectly.

But it gets wierder....

I reformatted the first machine and loaded on Vista instead. And it ran fine on there.

Since then, I've tried running this same app on litterally dozens of machines (some of them very low spec), and the only time I've had the problem again was on another windows7 Core2 machine. Could be a coincidence, but seems a bit suspicious.

Some things to rule out:
1) Memory- plenty of free RAM on "slow" machines.
2) Windows Updates- Installed all updates on "fast" and "slow" machines with no effect. Then removed all updates- still no effect.
3) Windows7 problem alone- Have got the app running fine on at least 3 other windows7 machines.
4) Core2 processor problem alone- Runs fine on Vista and XP machines which have same processor.
5) 32/64 bit version problem- App ran slow on 64 bit version first, then 32 bit version after. (Have got it to run fast on other 32 and 64 bit versions too.)
6) Other programs interfering- One "slow" windows7 machine was a a clean build with nothing on it at all.
7) Corrupt installation of app- Still slow after reinstall. It appears that "slow" machines are always slow. "Fast" ones are always fast.

Has anyone got any ideas to try. I am officially stumped!

Intel Core2 Duo processor

Please give us some more information about your system. Which core 2 duo model do you have? Memory? Is the CPU overclocked? Have you seen similar slugishness in other appz or just with this particular app? Which app is it?

Maybe the application is just not performing well with win 7. If you are sure that your computer has not any other problems then it is likely that the app has compatibility issues. If it is a development tool then search for any patches or updates for win 7. Hope I can help.:)

Thanks so much for your response.

According to system information, the processor is:
"Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7500 @2.93GHz 2.94GHz"

I've got 4GB RAM.

No, I've not noticed any sluggishness on any other apps, but I don't really have any other apps that work in a similar way. The app is one I've made myself and I can't distribute it- my boss won't let me.

I already tried going down the windows updates route, to no avail. Any suggestions as to where to look for windows 7 patches?

So you notice the problem in machines with the combination of Core 2 Duo/ Windows 7 32bit & 64bit. It is a very strange problem I haven't heard something similar before.

Definetly windows 7 plays a role to your problem. The next thing I would try is to place another cpu to your machine and check if the problem persists.

Have you tried the program on another dual core cpu machines running windows 7? It could be a problem with the combination of win7 & Dual -core CPUs.

I doubt the problem is with the processor. I am guessing it is something else. Usually the only problem with a processor is overheating from a heat sink clogged with dust and debris. But the overheating problem is doubtful since he is reporting problems only with running one program. Processors are rarely ever defective. It is the last component of a system to suspect.

You're right. It was nothing to do with the processor, and everything to do with the peculiarities of our local network.

Thanks everyone for your help! Much appreciated!
