Someone confirm to me that the multiplier for this CPU seems to be flexibile between 6 and 9 depending on if its being taxed or not? Just noticing on CPU-Z that it changes...

It's called speedstep, it does this at stock clocks as well when it's idle. If your motherboard has the option you can turn it off (labeled C1E or speedstep), but honestly I think it's a helpful feature because it keeps temps down around 5C during idle and it quickly changes the multiplier back if you're doing anything cpu intensive.
 
You should notice the vcore dropping when the multiplier drops as well, I don't think CPUz will detect that properly though. C1E is different than Speedstep. C1E stops the clock signal for a time, EIST (Speedstep) drops the multiplier and voltage

CPU-Z does show voltage dropping from load to unload.
 
Ah ok. For me the voltage it shows has never been right, so I only use CPUz when I'm trying to get someone to tell me what CPU/mobo/RAM they have.
 
CPU-z never displays proper cpu voltage for me either, just 1.25v constantly, even when i oc. Actually no program i have displays proper voltage, only thing i use is bios, which is that even inaccurate.
 
Weird, I am going to double check this now.

Edit: CPUZ does not show correct voltage for me anymore but previously I was on XP and now using Vista since XP crash. I will try again later on XP.

uhh, Jimmy, I have the same processor and here's some advice...I noticed you made your voltage FAR too high for 2.8ghz...I have mine running very stable (6 hrs with orthos on every core) at 3ghz on 1.293v...If you're finding it unstable to lower your voltage, may I suggest leaving your ram timings at 4-4-4-13 (well, those are mine, I have 800mhz 2gb), leave your ram clock at stock (set fsb to 333 and multiplier to 2.40 for 800mhz in my case), and setting the PCI-express frequency to 100mhz..well uh, if you need reference I'll type out my settings for

3ghz q6600 1.293v

FSB for ram and cpu: 333
multiplier for cpu: 9
multiplier for ram: 2.40
pci express freq: 100mhz
ram timings: 4-4-4-13
ram voltage: 1.8v

I'm suggesting a lower voltage because it drastically lowers your temperatures...I'm on air cooling, just reseated hsf and put a new application of as5 yesterday and my cores are around 55 load, haven't checked idle yet.
EDIT: I just realized how redundant this post is. bleh, just read the list if you want a comparison.
