...okay I will try this again. I have a corrupted HD that I am trying to recover files on. Can anyone give me any advice about how I might be able to get these??? I tried a couple of programs...but to no avail....nothing! I have it hooked up externally right now and sometime my computer doesn't even acknowledge the connection. Any advice would be appreciative....I'm getting desperate!!!!!!

Are you familiar with a live for cd Linux distro? Linux live cds provide one method for copying files off of a problem drive or partition by being self contained OS that runs off of a cd-r not a hard drive. A live distro like ubuntu and a few others like Knoppix can be a life saver at times since they can access MS partitions as well as the typical VFat Linux type or even other OSs. Have a look at the image here.

By simply booting from a cd-r seeing the ubuntu "Gutsy Gibbons" 7.10 release you can see how files were even copied from an external usb drive there. The linux distro also sees the typical copy+paste option for even highlighting to copy+paste entire folders even several folders at once. When data recovery programs don't get you anywhere this is one alternative method for the price of a cd-r.
